At 35.7° N, Tokyo runs from about 9 hours 45 minutes of daylight in late December to 14 hours 30 minutes in late June. Japan does not observe daylight saving time, so clock times track the sun closely all year — sunrise before 04:30 in June and after 06:45 in January, Tokyo time.
Why Tokyo sunrises feel early
Japan's single time zone (UTC+9) sits far west inside its zone width, pushing solar noon late in the western provinces and early around Tokyo. Compared with Shanghai at the same latitude, Tokyo's winter sunsets come noticeably earlier on the clock — a quirk of politics rather than astronomy.
